1. 一般过去时的定义
(1).用于描述过去某个特定时间发生的事件，或者过去经常性、习惯性的动作。
常常和表示过去的时间状语连用，比如yesterday（昨天），two days ago（两天前），last year（去年），the other day（前几天），once upon a time（从前），just now（刚才），in the old days（过去的日子里）等。
I have been studying English for three years.我已经学习英语三年了。
（2）表示过去连续发生的动作
过去连续发生的动作可以用过去进行时来表达。过去进行时由“was/were + 现在分词”构成，表示过去某一时刻正在进行的动作。
例如：
– I was studying when she called me.（她给我打电话时，我正在学习。）
– They were playing basketball when it started raining.（下雨时，他们正在打篮球。）
– He was cooking dinner while she was watching TV.（他在做晚饭，她在看电视。）
通常情况下，如果没有明确的时间状语，我们可以通过上下文来推断出时间。

2.一般过去时的构成
（1）主语+be动词的过去式+其它：
例如：The cat was sleeping on the sofa.（猫在沙发上睡觉。）
改写后：The dog was barking loudly in the yard.（狗在院子里大声叫。）
was是am和is的过去式，were是are的过去式。
Last Friday, he forgot his phone at home. 上周五，他忘记把手机带到家里了。
(2) 行为动词的被动语态：主语+be动词的过去式+行为动词的过去分词+(其它)。
The students were excited to go on a field trip to the zoo. 学生们对去动物园的实地考察感到兴奋。

Nancy picked some oranges on the farm last week.
I made a model ship with Mike yesterday.
They were playing chess in the classroom during the last PE lesson.
